Job summary

WestCare Foundation in Atlanta, GA is seeking a Part Time Veteran Support Specialist to provide outreach, engagement, and services to veterans at risk of suicide. This role emphasizes trauma-informed care and collaboration with VA facilities to coordinate services and referrals.

The specialist will maintain confidential records, support follow-up, and participate in community events, with regular travel and occasional after-hours work as needed.

Qualifications

• Strong interpersonal, engagement, advocacy, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to organize and prioritize a caseload, coordinate multiple services, and complete documentation timely.
• Ability to communicate effectively with participants, families, providers, community partners, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Knowledge of suicide prevention principles, trauma-informed care, and veteran resources.

Responsibilities

• Conduct community outreach and engagement activities to identify and connect with at-risk veterans and service members.
• Provide support and mentorship using shared lived experience to foster trust and empowerment.
• Assist individuals in navigating mental health and housing resources, crisis intervention, and other support systems.
• Collaborate with local VA facilities, community providers, and the broader support network to coordinate services and referrals.
• Participate in suicide prevention trainings and maintain knowledge of best practices related to veteran care.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all interactions and services provided, in compliance with grant requirements and confidentiality standards.
• Support follow-up efforts with program participants to ensure continued engagement and service connection.
• Promote protective factors such as connectedness, resilience, and purpose among participants.
• Attend and participate in team meetings, supervision, and relevant community events.
• Must Embrace and embody the mission, vision, guiding principles, clinical vision, and goals of WestCare Foundation; and
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
