Job summary

Baystate Health is seeking an organized Unit Clerk to support nurse managers and charge nurses in patient information processing, documentation, and unit operations. You will coordinate bed management, admissions and discharges, and serve as a receptionist for visitors while acting as a business partner to clinical staff.

Daily duties include maintaining charts, relaying messages, and assisting with patient throughput.

Qualifications

• Strong communication and teamwork abilities are essential for patient care coordination.
• Ability to prioritize, organize documentation, and manage multiple tasks on a daily basis.
• Experience coordinating with multiple departments to support patient throughput and bed management.

Responsibilities

• Bed management: track, prioritize, and assign beds; coordinate admissions, discharges, and transfers.
• Utilize daily computer applications (Word, OA Gold, SMS, CIS, Premise, BMD, PCM Auditor, PeopleSoft, Staples, Koronos) accurately.
• Lead unit projects and staffing tasks such as payroll, committee work, and scheduling.
• Provide report/handoff to next shift; communicate pending discharges and bed status to team.
• Serve as unit resource for Hospitalist teams; support rounds and post-discharge follow-ups.
• Maintain patient charts, prepare transfer/discharge records, and update HIM-related logs.
• Greeter for new patients/families and assist other departments with information requests.
