Job summary

Komatsu Mining Corp. in Billings, MT, is seeking an Underground Field Service Technician to maintain and repair underground mining machinery.

You will diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, perform on-site repairs, and ensure continuous production with safety as a core priority. This hands-on role requires two years of underground equipment experience or an accredited apprenticeship, plus the ability to read schematics and work with low voltage controls.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years' practical experience in underground or heavy equipment service roles.
• Completion of an accredited apprenticeship program or one year of post-secondary technical education in a related field.
• Preference for underground mining experience.
• Strong troubleshooting and repair skills with focus on reliability and safety.
• Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and safety documents.
• Willingness to engage in ongoing training and certifications.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, inspect, and repair underground mining machinery to minimize downtime and optimize efficiency.
• Use diagnostic tools to identify mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues.
• Travel to sites to perform on-site repairs and component replacements.
• Test repaired equipment to verify performance and safety.
• Interpret schematics and manuals for low voltage control systems.
• Align and calibrate components per manufacturer specs.
• Follow safety protocols for underground environments.
• Collaborate with supervisors and engineers on improvements.
