Job summary

Granite Construction is seeking an entry-level estimator to support cost estimates for heavy civil projects. You will interpret drawings, prepare quantity take-offs, and assist with bid development, using Excel and AGTEK Take-off software.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor's in Civil Engineering or Construction Management (or related field) and 0-2 years of related experience, with a willingness to learn safety standards and work collaboratively on project teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred, or equivalent combinations of technical training and related experience.
• 0 - 2 years construction estimating support, engineering, field support, or similar experience.
• Proficiency with MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and Take-off software.

Responsibilities

• Assist with job controls to ensure compliance with contract, budget, schedule, forecasting and job costing.
• Interpret design/drawings for craft workers installing material to ensure specifications are followed.
• Research and recommend resolutions to drawing interpretation problems and errors to verify compliance with codes and specs.
• Prepare and disseminate documentation records such as status reports, punch lists, and material calculations to supervisor.
• Provide technical support regarding project material controls to minimize additional costs.
• Prepare drawings and sketches to support construction work, change orders, and estimates.
• Provide building control lines and elevations for accurate measurement and installation.
• Develop data including quantity take-offs, material prices, labor costs per hour, and equipment for estimates.
• Research historical data to compile reports and develop guidelines for future bids.
• Maintain back-up files for estimating figures to support bid accuracy.
