Job summary

Layton Construction seeks a Superintendent to lead daily on-site operations for ground-up commercial projects, overseeing scheduling, production, and procurement of materials, manpower, and equipment. This role requires full-time travel to project locations; the listed Charlotte area location is not the project site.

The Superintendent will supervise all direct labor, manage subcontractors, and ensure safety, quality, and timely completion of work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in construction management or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 5+ years of experience in ground-up commercial projects, particularly in the light industrial and/or cold storage sector.
• Demonstrated knowledge of construction processes.
• Has a valid driver's license and is able to travel to and from the project site.
• Understands and applies building codes and other design requirements correctly and reads blueprints accurately.
• Has good written and verbal communication skills: expresses ideas clearly and effectively; uses proper grammar and syntax.(Basic Spanish preferred)
• Knowledge and use of CMiC preferred.

Responsibilities

• Studies specifications to plan procedures for construction on basis of starting and completion times and staffing requirements for each phase of construction, based on knowledge of available tools and equipment and various building methods.
• Interacts with the Project Manager to determine the project schedule; develops and utilizes look ahead schedules to assess progress and spot upcoming issues.
• Coordinates the pre-construction meeting with the Project Manager prior to mobilization.
• Directs procurement of tools and materials to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules.
• Ensures all parties involved with the project are informed of construction issues and progress: meets with supervisory personnel, craft personnel, subcontractors, and clients as needed.
• Works with supervisory and engineering personnel to resolve construction problems and to improve construction methods.
• Inspects work in progress to ensure conformance to specifications and schedules.
• Manages the project based on progress reports, materials used, and costs and adjusts schedules accordingly.
• Works with the Manager of Craft Resources to move personnel between projects, manage labor costs, and oversee crew assignments.
• Prepares the Project Management Plan in conjunction with the Project Manager.
• Ensures safety and quality standards, and company policies are implemented consistently.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
