Layton Construction Company is seeking a Project Engineer to support Project Managers and ensure installed work complies with plans and specifications. The role requires relocation to the project site and will involve close collaboration with field teams to drive schedule, quality, and safety on commercial projects.

The ideal candidate has a construction management background, strong communication, and the ability to read blueprints and use scheduling tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in construction management or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 1+ year of experience with a commercial general contractor, or comparable internship experience, preferred.
• Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to express ideas clearly in writing and speaking.
• Proficiency in Word and Excel.
• Flexibility to modify plans and collaborate to meet goals.
• Cooperation: works well with others and helps teammates achieve objectives.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints.
• Willingness to learn safety requirements and adhere to OSHA standards.
• Problem solving: analyzes issues and proposes practical solutions.
• Scheduling programs knowledge is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assists Project Managers to ensure work installed meets plan and specifications.
• Review shop drawings and submittals for consistency with project documents.
• Analyze plans for value and constructability; communicate inconsistencies to the architect.
• Suggest labor-saving and cost-saving methods.
• Attend and document project team meetings; distribute minutes.
• Publish weekly progress reports and track required information for construction.
• Update project schedules as needed.
• Assist in bidding and in developing scope for trade contractors.
• Coordinate with the superintendent on schedules, shop drawing milestones, and material lists.
• Maintain logs of shop drawings, clarifications, and change/ proposal requests.
• Advise on procedures for concrete pours and inspect structural reinforcement.
• Coordinate slump and compaction testing; verify compliance with specs.
• Review field procedures and installation of structural elements for quality.
