Job summary

Layton Construction is seeking a Project Engineer to assist Project Managers in delivering work that meets plans and specs on our projects across the region. You will review drawings, prepare schedules, and help coordinate subcontractors to keep milestones on track.

The position requires relocation to the project site and ongoing collaboration with superintendents and the Owner/Architect teams to ensure quality, safety, and timely delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in construction management or related field or equivalent.
• Experience with a commercial general contractor or internship preferred.
• Strong written and spoken communication skills.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
• Proficiency in Word and Excel.
• Willingness to adapt plans to meet goals.
• Understanding OSHA and safety requirements.
• Demonstrated integrity and teamwork.
• Problem-solving in variable construction environments.
• Familiarity with scheduling programs preferred.

Responsibilities

• Familiarize with project plans and specifications to ensure compliance.
• Review shop drawings and submittals for consistency.
• Suggest cost-saving methods with contractor and owner in mind.
• Attend meetings and distribute minutes.
• Publish weekly progress reports and track information.
• Update project schedules as needed.
• Assist in bidding and in developing scope of work for trades.
• Coordinate schedules for shop drawings and milestones.
• Maintain logs of shop drawings, RFIs, changes, and proposals.
• Advise on concrete pours and inspect reinforcing.
• Coordinate slump and compaction testing.
• Review field procedures and final installations.
• Observe work methods to improve production efficiency.
• Comply with safety policies; report unsafe activities.
