Job summary

Layton Construction seeks an experienced Superintendent to lead daily operations on a construction site, including scheduling, production, and procurement. The role requires full-time travel and on-site work at the project location, with coordination through the Project Manager to keep milestones on track.

The position emphasizes adherence to building codes, managing subcontractors, and maintaining safety, quality, and communication with clients and crews throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in construction management or related field or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of ground-up commercial project experience, especially in light industrial/cold storage.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites.
• Knowledge of building codes and ability to read blueprints.
• Familiarity with subcontractors' scopes of work and tolerances.
• Strong written and verbal communication; basic Spanish preferred.
• Good administrative and management skills; monitors progress and coordinates work.
• Maintains integrity and professionalism in job-related activities.
• Strong problem-solving ability and initiative; self-starter.
• Team player with good interpersonal relations.

Responsibilities

• Studies specifications to plan procedures for construction and staffing.
• Interacts with Project Manager to determine schedule and look-ahead plans.
• Coordinates pre-construction meeting with Project Manager.
• Directs procurement of tools and materials to meet schedules.
• Communicates progress and issues to clients, subs, and crews regularly.
• Resolves disputes and coordinates with supervisory and engineering personnel.
• Inspects work for conformance to specs and schedules.
• Manages project progress, costs, and crew assignments; relocates personnel as needed.
• Assists in preparing the Project Management Plan with the PM.
• Ensures safety, quality, and housekeeping policies are followed.
