American Traveler, LLC. is hiring a Behavioral Health RN for a night shift in an inpatient psychiatric unit in Des Moines, IA.

The role requires Epic experience and at least 15 months of recent psych/behavioral health work history. In this hospital setting, you will care for patients across adolescent, adult, and geriatric groups, manage complex behavioral health cases, and work in a 11p–7a schedule with 40 hours weekly and every other weekend.

Qualifications

• Active RN license (IA or compact)
• Current BLS certification (AHA or ARC)
• Minimum 24 months of psych/behavioral health experience
• First-time travelers accepted with at least 12 months of psych/BH experience
• Recent or current inpatient psych/BH experience preferred
• Experience working with adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
• Epic EMR experience required
• De-escalation certification preferred; may be obtained onboarding
• Psych/BH skills checklist required
• Supervisor/manager references preferred within past 24 months
• Driver's license required for consideration

Responsibilities

• Inpatient Adult Mental Health unit at hospital setting
• Treat acute psychiatric patients including violence, aggression, mania, or self-harm
• Care for all ages (adolescent, adult, geriatric) with unit focus on adults
• Patient ratios up to 1:4-6 depending on unit and shift
• Night shift, 11p-7a, 40 hrs/week
• Every other weekend required; no on-call requirements
• Float across Des Moines campuses and age groups as needed
• Use restraints as part of equipment competency
• Epic EMR documentation and care planning
• Provide direct care for acute psychiatric conditions

American Traveler is hiring a Behavioral Health RN for a night shift inpatient psychiatric unit requiring Epic experience and at least 15 months of recent psych/BH experience.

Requirements

• Active RN license (IA or compact)
• Current BLS certification (AHA or ARC)
• Minimum 24 months of current psych/behavioral health experience required on work history
• First-time travelers accepted with at least 12 months of psych/BH experience
• Recent or current inpatient psych/BH experience highly preferred
• Experience working with all age groups (adolescent, adult, geriatric) required
• Epic EMR experience required
• De-escalation certification (MOAB, MAB, or CPI) highly preferred; may be obtained during onboarding
• Skills checklist specific to psych/behavioral health required
• Professional reference from a supervisor, charge nurse, manager, director, CNO, or COO within the past 24 months preferred
• Driver's license required for consideration

Responsibilities

• Inpatient Adult Mental Health unit at a hospital setting
• Acute psychiatric patients with major mental health illness, including chronic behaviors such as violence, aggression, mania, and self-harm
• Treats all age groups including adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, with home unit based in Adults
• Patient ratios up to 1:4-6 depending on unit and shift
• Night shift, Monday through Friday, 11p-7a, 40 hrs/week
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call requirements
• Float required across Des Moines campuses and age groups as needed
• Uses restraints as part of equipment competency
• Epic EMR used
• Provide direct care to acute psychiatric patients, managing conditions involving aggression, mania, and self-harm behaviors
• Scrub color requirement: solid navy blue
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, as no local candidates are accepted
• Required to work 1-2 of 3 winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's) and 1-2 of 3 summer holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day) unless the unit is closed
• Limited time-off requests permitted during peak holiday periods
• Past employees of the health system (FTE or PRN float pool) are not eligible to work travel assignments at any facility within the market if employed within the past 12 months
