Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Behavioral Health RN for an Adult Inpatient Unit in Texas. Requires TX or compact RN license, BLS, travel nursing experience, and 2 years of psych nursing. ACLS/NIHSS preferred. Night shift 3x12 or 4x12, 7 on 7 off, potential float to ER or Med Surg. Onsite drug screening and strict attendance are included.

Qualifications

• Active TX or compact RN license required, in-hand at time of consideration.
• BLS certification required; ACLS and NIHSS preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of behavioral health nursing experience.
• Previous travel nursing experience required.
• Prior charge nurse experience preferred.
• Experience with psych meds and crisis intervention.
• Familiarity with seclusion, de-escalation, and behavior management.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care and monitoring for adult psychiatric inpatients, including crisis intervention and de-escalation as needed.
• Adult Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit setting with 1:8 patient ratios.
• Night shift schedule: 3x12 or 4x12 hours (19:00-08:00).
• 7 on, 7 off schedule (Thu–Wed) with every other weekend.
• May float to ER or Med Surg as needed.
• Epic charting system experience preferred.
• Must reside within 110 miles of the facility; local candidates not accepted.
• Full compliance with facility's drug screening and policy on substances.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring a Behavioral Health RN for an Adult Inpatient Unit requiring a TX or compact RN license, travel experience, and 2 years of psych nursing experience.

Requirements

• Active TX or compact RN license required, in-hand at time of consideration
• BLS certification required; ACLS and NIHSS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of behavioral health nursing experience required
• Previous travel nursing experience required
• Prior charge nurse experience preferred
• Skilled in medication administration including antianxiety, antidepressant, antipsychotic, and mood stabilizer medications
• Experience caring for patients with anxiety, bipolar, depressive, personality, and psychotic disorders, as well as self-injurious and suicidal behavior and substance use
• Trained in crisis intervention, de-escalation, and behavior management techniques
• Experience with blood glucose monitoring, oxygen administration, and seclusion protocols
• Experience with emergent chemical restraints and physical hold protocols preferred
• Familiarity with locked unit and medical/psych treatment settings preferred
• Understanding of legal aspects including use of seclusion and voluntary/involuntary commitment preferred

• Facility conducts its own onsite drug screening, including marijuana testing, with any positive result resulting in automatic cancellation
• Candidates should avoid any substances, including CBD products, that could result in a positive drug screen
• RTO must be submitted with initial consideration
• Clinicians must be available to complete required lab work within 72 hours of accepting an offer or have a plan in place to do so
