Job summary

American Traveler is hiring a PACU RN with a TX or compact RN license and 2+ years of PACU experience for a 13-week assignment. The role includes day shifts with 5x8 or 4x10 options, 1:2 patient ratio, and variety of surgical cases.

Qualifications

• Active TX or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration.

• Experience with airway assessment and care of ventilated patients.
• IV starts, phlebotomy, blood product administration experience.

Responsibilities

• Inpatient and ambulatory PACU settings including Phase I and Phase II Recovery and Pedi PACU.
• Day shift 5x8 or 4x10 options; include call responsibilities.
• Patient ratio 1:2.
• Handle bariatrics, ENT, general, gyn, ortho, plastics, urology procedures.
• Provide pre/post-operative care, discharge instructions, endoscopy peri-procedural care.

American Traveler is hiring a PACU RN with a TX or compact RN license and 2+ years of PACU experience for a 13-week assignment.

Requirements

• Active TX or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
• Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of PACU experience required
• Experience with airway assessment and care of ventilated patients
• Skilled in starting and maintaining IVs, phlebotomy, and blood product administration
• Competent in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia recognition/management, and emergency medication administration
• Experience with procedural sedation administration/monitoring and reversal agents
• Knowledge of malignant hyperthermia protocol and pain assessment/management
• Experience managing pediatric patients and performing circulation checks
• Travel experience preferred but not required

Responsibilities

• Inpatient and ambulatory/outpatient PACU setting including Phase I and Phase II Recovery and Pedi PACU
• Day shift schedule with varied start times, offering 5x8 or 4x10 hour shift options, plus call responsibilities
• Patient ratio of 1:2
• Surgical case types include bariatrics, endo/laparoscopic, ENT, general, gyn, ortho, plastics, podiatry, robotics, and urology
• Cares for patients undergoing a wide range of procedures including hysterectomy, mastectomy, cholecystectomy, colon surgery, total joint replacement, tonsillectomy, and gastric bypass/sleeve
• Manages various types of anesthesia recovery including general, local, MAC, conscious sedation, nerve blocks, and spinal/post-epidural
• Altera charting experience preferred but not required
• Provide pre- and post-operative care including discharge instructions and pre/post endoscopy procedures
• Manage PCA pumps and monitor insulin and hyperglycemia/hypoglycemia protocols
• Perform stroke scale assessments as needed
• Facility conducts its own onsite drug screening, including marijuana testing, with automatic cancellation for any positive result
• Must reside within 150 miles of the facility to be considered local for RN/LVN roles
• Previous permanent staff must be separated from the facility for at least 1 year before returning as a traveler
• First-time travelers will be considered
