Job summary

American Traveler is hiring a RN - MedSurg/Tele for a 12hr night shift contract requiring 18 months of MedSurg experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Responsibilities include post-surgical care in a Level III teaching hospital with 28 beds, patient care across multiple surgical disciplines, and a 1:4-6 RN ratio with surge coverage. EPIC EMR is used; floating to Region 1 facilities as needed.

Qualifications

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required.
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS.
• Minimum 18 months of MedSurg RN experience required.
• EPIC EMR experience required.
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration.
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN.

• Post Surgical Care unit with 28 beds in a Trauma Level III, teaching hospital.
• Patient population includes orthopedic, spine, trauma, vascular surgery, and medical overflow cases.
• RN patient ratio of 1:4-6, with surge times up to 1:7-8.
• CNA ratio of 1:7 during days and 1:9-10 during nights.
• 12hr night shift, 1900-0700, 36 hours per week.
• Weekend rotation required every other weekend.
• No on-call or call-back requirements.
• Floating required within Region 1 facilities based on staffing needs.
• Provide post-surgical nursing care including incision care, drains, wound care, mobility assistance, education, trach care, NG, braces.

• Provide post-surgical nursing care including incision care, assessment, drains, chest tubes, wound care/wound vacs, mobility assistance, patient education, trach care, NG tube insertion, and use of braces/traction
• Unit is undergoing recertification for Advanced Certification for Spine Surgery, and travelers are expected to participate with ongoing management support
• Support team includes CNAs, charge nurse, IV/VAT team, mentor program, 24/7 respiratory therapy and hospitalist coverage, remote telemetry monitoring, house supervisor, patient safety attendants, BERT, and Rapid Response/Code Team
• Uses EPIC EMR, BD Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Phillips and Massimo monitors
• Orientation includes NEO and 2 days of departmental orientation
• Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
• RTO of up to 6 days may be approved, excluding holidays; unmet contracted hours must be added to the end of the contract
• Navy scrub color required
• Free parking available in designated areas
• Unit culture is described as positive and supportive
• First-time travelers not preferred but will be considered
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates not accepted
• Previous employees must be separated from any Advocate Health Southeast facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
