Job summary

American Traveler, LLC. is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in North Carolina. The ideal candidate has NIHSS certification and prior stroke unit experience and holds an active RN license (NC or Compact).

The assignment requires 18+ months of Med/Surg Tele practice, BLS and ACLS, and Epic EMR proficiency. You will work on a 109-bed hospital Advanced Primary Stroke Center, with a 27-bed unit and night shifts 1900-0700, 36 hours weekly, every other weekend, no on-call.

Qualifications

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele experience required
• Proficiency in stroke assessments, chest tube management, PIV starts, trach care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, NGT placement, and drain/tube management
• Experience managing PCA pumps and medication drips including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IV fluids
• Epic EMR experience required
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Responsibilities

• Medical Telemetry unit within a 109-bed hospital that is an Advanced Primary Stroke Center
• 27-bed unit with an average census of 20 patients
• Common diagnoses include stroke, COPD, chest pain, altered mental status, and GI bleed
• RN to patient ratio of 1:5-6, acuity dependent, with potential surge staffing up to 1:7-8
• 12-hour night shift schedule, 1900-0700, 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation required
• Floating required within Region 1 facilities as needed within scope of practice
• CNA support available for foley insertion, IV removal, vitals, and ADLs
• Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Philips monitors
• Provide direct nursing care to Med/Surg Tele patients including medication and drip management, wound and drain care, and cardiac monitoring
• Positive, team-driven unit culture
• 2-day departmental orientation in addition to NEO
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Free parking available on site
• Travelers must work approximately 75% of holidays
• Up to 6 RTO days may be approved, excluding holidays, with any missed contracted hours added to the end of the assignment
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates not accepted
• First-time travelers not preferred but will be considered for resource team positions
• Previous employees must have been separated from any Advocate Health Southeast facility for at least one year following a permanent position

• Dayshift receptionist/HUC support only
• Charge nurse may or may not carry a patient assignment
• Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Philips monitors
• Provide direct nursing care to Med/Surg Tele patients including medication and drip management, wound and drain care, and cardiac monitoring
