Telemetry and EPIC EMR are used on a 20-bed unit with 1:5–6 ratios. Night shifts run 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, with self-scheduling and block scheduling options. Travel housing and licensure reimbursements are available, and the facility offers strong patient

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care on a busy Med/Surg unit focused on stroke and neurological patients.
• Night shift (7p-7:30a) with a 1:5–6 nurse-to-patient ratio; self-scheduling via API.
• Care for telemetry patients using Philips monitors with central monitoring.
• Floating to MedSurg, tele units, IMC or ICU as needed; no call or standby required.
• Utilize EPIC EMR for documentation and patient care planning.

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring stroke patient care experience and NIHSS certification.

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required, or must be actively in process
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications (AHA) required
• Must be comfortable caring for stroke patients
• Nursys verification required for license confirmation
• Must pass a negative drug screen for all panels as OSF is a Drug-Free Campus

Responsibilities

• Acute care Adult Medical Specialty Unit with 20 beds
• Night shift patient ratio of 1:5-6
• Patient population includes CVA/TIA, ICH/SDH/SAH, syncope, weakness/aphasia, altered mental status, seizures, COVID/COVID PNA, and ARF
• All beds are telemetry capable using Philips monitors, with central monitoring support and nurses reviewing strips each shift
• RNs are not required to titrate drips; patients requiring titration are moved to a higher level of care
• Set rate drips (such as Cardizem or Amio) can be adjusted by RN via physician order
• RT equipment includes PRN/nightly CPAP, BiPap, and high flow nasal cannula, with troubleshooting responsibilities
• 3 negative airflow rooms available for conditions such as TB and shingles
• CNA support provided with ratios of approximately 1:10 to 1:12 depending on unit and census
• 12-hour night shifts (7p-730a) with self-scheduling via API and block scheduling allowed
• Cannot exceed more than 6 shifts in a row
• Required to work every other weekend (Friday/Saturday nights)
• Required to work every other holiday on a night shift holiday eve rotation
• Can float down to MedSurg (max ratio 1:6) or to other tele units, IMC, or ICU for appropriate assignments
• No call or standby requirements
• EPIC EMR used
• Provide direct patient care on a busy med/surg unit with a focus on stroke and neurological patient populations
• Charge nurse typically carries a full patient assignment depending on staffing needs
• Unit orientation includes online education, 1 day of house orientation, and 2-3 days of department orientation with a preceptor
• Dress code requires professional scrubs in any color; no crocs, artificial nails/enhancements, or jackets/sweaters with hoods or outside logos
• Scrubs are not provided
• High priority placed on patient experience and quality care
• COVID vaccination is not required for consideration
• Local candidates welcome, with reduced rate applying to those within 50 miles of the facility
• No radius restriction for eligibility
