Job summary

American Traveler, LLC. is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg unit on night shift in Peoria, IL. The role requires active IL RN license, 1 year nursing experience, and neuro unit background, with travel nursing experience preferred. Will titrate heparin drips and work with EPIC EMR.

The 54-bed unit handles stroke, spine surgery, seizures, brain tumors, and head injuries. Night shifts are 12 hours, with every other weekend and some holidays, plus floating under supervision.

Qualifications

• Active IL RN license required.
• Minimum 1 year of nursing experience required.
• Required certifications: BLS (AHA) and NIHSS.
• Level 1 trauma center experience required.
• Prior experience on a dedicated neuro unit required.
• Prior travel nursing experience required.
• Heparin drip titration experience required.

Responsibilities

• Acute care Neuro Med-Surg unit with 54 beds (semi-private rooms).
• Patient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and other neuroscience diagnoses.
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 on day shift and 1:5-6 on nights.
• 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend (Sat/Sun) required.
• Every other holiday rotation required.
• No call or standby requirements.
• Floating required in rotation with staff to general unit floors; floats outside the unit limited to competent skills under supervision.
• Charge nurse and house supervisor available 24/7.
• Patient care techs/aides support staffing at ratios of 1:9-10 days/evenings and 1:10-12 nights.
• Uses EPIC EMR.
• Telemetry monitoring with dedicated tele techs; RNs not required to read strips.
• RNs required to titrate drips, including heparin based on PTT.
• Provide direct patient care for neuroscience diagnoses including stroke, seizure, spine surgery, and brain tumor cases.
• Troubleshoot respiratory therapy equipment including high flow oxygen.
• No scrub color requirement; tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings permitted on duty.
• Orientation includes 2 days of computer and unit-specific training with an educator, plus patient care experience with a preceptor.
• First-time travelers are not eligible for this position.
• Local candidates may be considered under a reduced local pay rate.
