Job summary

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night shift assignment at a Level 1 trauma academic medical center in Nebraska. Requires NE or Compact RN licensure and BLS.

The RN will work on a 28-bed unit with 1:5–6 patient ratios, EPIC EMR, and telemetry. 12-hour nights with self-scheduling and floating as needed; every other weekend, with orientation and navy blue scrubs provided.

Qualifications

• Active RN license required (NE or Compact)
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years RN experience required
• Willing to precept and teach in an academic institute setting
• Driver's license required to confirm residence location
• Two professional references with dates of employment and rehire eligibility

Responsibilities

• Care for a 28-bed Med/Surg unit on a Level 1 trauma academic center
• Maintain patient ratios of 1:5–6 with nurse aide support 1:10–14
• Care for population including cardiology, oncology, urology, complex med/surg
• Use EPIC EMR and monitor telemetry; read strips
• 12-hour night shifts with self-scheduling; every other weekend
• Floating per skill level; no call or standby
• Provide direct patient care on a busy Med/Surg unit
• Charge nurse or house supervisor experience is a plus
• Orientation provided (1–2 days) and navy blue scrubs required
• Holiday coverage with no RTO during holidays
• Must pass a 90%+ pass/fail exam during orientation
• Must reside within 50 miles of facility
• Past year cannot be employed by CommonSpirit facilities

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night shift assignment at a Level 1 trauma academic medical center requiring NE or compact RN licensure.

Requirements

• Active RN license (NE or Compact) required
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Must be willing to precept and teach in an academic institute setting
• Able to care for a wide variety of patient types
• Driver's license required at time of consideration to confirm residence location
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility

Responsibilities

• 28-bed Med/Surg unit in an acute care, Level 1 trauma academic institution
• Patient ratios of 1:5-6 with nurse aide support at 1:10-14
• Patient population includes cardiology, surgical oncology, urology, and complex general med surg cases
• Respiratory equipment used includes nasal cannula (<6L if acute) and trach collar
• Telemetry monitoring in place with centralized monitoring techs; RNs read basic strips
• RNs are not required to titrate drips, though IVF may be used as a set-rate drip
• Uses EPIC EMR
• 12-hour night shifts with self-scheduling and per-manager unit balancing
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required per skill level
• No call or standby requirement
• Provide direct patient care on a busy Med/Surg unit supporting a wide variety of diagnoses
• Charge nurse or house supervisor experience is a plus but not required
• 1-2 days of unit/department specific orientation provided
• Navy blue scrub color required
• Holiday coverage required with no RTO approved during holidays
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments
• Must pass a pass/fail open-book exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit-associated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year
