Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for Labor & Delivery/LDRP at a California facility. The role requires at least 2 years of L&D experience and advanced fetal monitoring certification. You will work in a busy Family Birthing Center with 4 L&D beds and 8 Mother-Baby beds.

Night shifts are 12 hours from 1845 to 0715 with every other weekend; travel staff may float within the unit. Required CA RN license, ACLS, BLS, NRP and AFM; STABLE preferred.

Qualifications

• Active California RN license required.
• ACLS, BLS (AHA), NRP, and AWHONN AFM certifications required.
• STABLE certification preferred.
• Minimum 2 years L&D experience.
• Must work nights, with limited resources, and manage emergencies.
• Two professional references: supervisor (12 months) and peer/supervisor (3 years).
• Copy of driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Cover L&D, Postpartum, OB in Family Birthing Center in acute care.
• L&D unit has 4 beds; Mother-Baby has 8 beds; manage patient ratios.
• Approximately 45 deliveries per month; no high-risk on site.
• Transfer mothers at 34 weeks or earlier; newborns may need IV antibiotics or oxygen.
• No tele or vent responsibilities; potential to float within unit for travelers.
• EMR Cerner; 12-hour night shifts 18:45–07:15; every other weekend; holiday coverage.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery/LDRP position requiring at least 2 years of L&D experience and advanced fetal monitoring certification.

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS (AHA), NRP, and AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AFM)
• STABLE certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience required
• Must be able to work independently and remain strong in emergency situations, particularly during night shifts with limited resources
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor reference within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor reference within the last 3 years worked
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Responsibilities

• Acute care setting in the Family Birthing Center, covering L&D, Postpartum, and OB
• L&D unit has 4 beds and Mother-Baby unit has 8 beds
• Patient ratios: L&D 1:2 (1:1 during active delivery), Mother-Baby 1:4 (couplets)
• Approximately 45 deliveries per month including standard L&D, term, and preterm cases, with no high-risk deliveries handled on site
• Transfer mothers at 34 weeks and below, newborns may require IV antibiotics and/or short-term oxygen
• General GYN patients also cared for on the unit
• EMR: Cerner
• 12-hour night shifts from 1845-0715
• Every other weekend required: nights work Fri, Sat, and Sun
• Holiday coverage rotates in with core staff
• Charge nurse available, generally does not take patients but provides break relief
• No floating outside of L&D or Mother-Baby units; travelers may be first to float within the unit
• No tele or vent responsibilities on this unit
• Respiratory Therapy available 24/7; Pharmacy available 0630-2200 with on-call support overnight
• OB and Anesthesia available on-call at night; Hospitalist/Intensivist in house during the day
• 2 RNs and 1 RT present for every delivery
• Schedules posted 6 weeks in advance with no self-scheduling; report given at bedside
• Provide direct patient care across L&D, Postpartum, and general GYN populations
• Floor-specific orientation includes 2-3 days with a preceptor
• Scrubs are provided
• Travelers can view schedules remotely and make themselves available for extra shifts or trades with staff
• Block scheduling is generally not available
• Holiday coverage expected for 2 of the 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's), with final scheduling determined by unit managers
• Facility-wide orientation takes place in Sacramento, not at the local facility
• First-time travelers may be considered for this position
• Candidates may not have been directly employed by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility within the past year, though PRN work through outside staffing firms is acceptable
