American Traveler, LLC. is seeking an experienced RN for a combined Labor & Delivery, Well-Baby Nursery and Postpartum unit in California. Candidates must have L&D and postpartum experience, advanced fetal monitoring certification, and hold an active CA RN license.

Responsibilities include managing a high-acuity 10-bed unit, high-risk deliveries, and collaborating with hospital teams. Night shifts are 7p-7a with self-scheduling and occasional weekends.

Qualifications

• Active CA RN license required.
• Minimum 3 years of experience.
• Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NRP, AFM.
• Must have both postpartum and L&D experience.
• Cerner EMR experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage Labor & Delivery, Well-Baby Nursery and Postpartum on a 10-bed unit.
• Provide care for high-risk deliveries (≥35 weeks), twins, and drug-exposed infants.
• Maintain L&D 1:1–2 and postpartum 1:4 ratios; 30–40 deliveries per month.
• Float among staff with occasional cross-unit assignments.
• Utilize Cerner EMR, Philips telemetry, and Fetal Link monitoring.
• Night shifts 7p–7a with self-scheduling and every other weekend.

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a combined Labor & Delivery/Well-Baby Nursery/Postpartum unit requiring both L&D and postpartum experience and advanced fetal monitoring certification.

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• Minimum 3 years of experience required
• BSN not required
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NRP, and AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AFM)
• Must have both postpartum and L&D experience
• Must be comfortable independently running and managing deliveries
• Must be teamwork oriented
• Cerner EMR experience
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Responsibilities

• Acute care Level 3 trauma hospital setting
• Combined 10-bed unit covering Labor & Delivery, Well-Baby Nursery, and Postpartum
• L&D ratios typically 1:1-2 following AWHONN guidelines, postpartum couplet care at 1:4
• Unit performs approximately 30-40 deliveries per month
• Patient population includes high-risk deliveries 35 weeks and above, twin deliveries, drug-exposed infants under withdrawal protocol, and occasional post-op gyn surgery patients on the PP side
• Uses Cerner EMR and Philips telemetry, with Fetal Link fetal heart monitoring system
• 12-hour night shifts, 7p-7a, with self-scheduling and every other weekend required
• First to float among staff, with rare floating to Med-Surg or CCU only if desired, and must work both L&D and PP sides of the unit
• Charge nurse takes a patient assignment; no nurse aides on unit
• No IV team; Respiratory Therapy available 24/7; pharmacy in-house only 10 hours per day
• Hospitalist coverage available 24/7 with 4 OB/GYNs and 2 midwives, no neonatologist in house
• RNs are not required to scrub in for C-sections, as OR covers this
• Floor-specific orientation is 2-3 days
• Manage labor, delivery, postpartum, and well-baby nursery patient care
• Navy scrub color required
• Holiday coverage required as part of the permanent staff rotation
• Schedules are built 30-45 days in advance with some self-scheduling flexibility
• On-call shifts available for those who want them
• First-time travelers may be considered
