Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for Labor & Delivery in Texas. Requires 2+ years L&D, active TX or compact RN license, circulating and transition skills, and multiple obstetric certifications.

Responsibilities include care for 200-300 births monthly, triage through antepartum, labor, circulator and transition, day shifts 7:00 AM–7:00 PM, 13-week minimum. Cerner charting preferred. Housing, insurance, 401(k), per diems, and travel/licensure reimbursements provided.

Qualifications

• Active TX or compact RN license required.
• Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience required, including ability to circulate and transition babies.
• Previous charge nurse experience required.
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, NRP.
• Preferred certifications: AWHONN Advanced, AWHONN Intermediate, FHM.
• Experience with IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood and blood product administration, venous blood draws, and IV/infusion pump management required.
• Experience with antepartum care, high-risk antepartum, and labor and delivery management required.
• Experience with fetal monitoring including EFM, IUPC placement/calibration, and recognition of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns required.
• First-time travelers considered if candidate has appropriate experience.

Responsibilities

• Labor & Delivery unit with facility birth volume of 200-300 per month.
• Rotates through triage, antepartum, labor, circulate, and transition (no post-partum).
• Day shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
• 13-week minimum assignment length.
• Cerner charting system experience preferred.
• Provide comprehensive labor and delivery nursing care including assisting with vaginal and high-risk deliveries, circulating for C-sections, and newborn care in the delivery room.
• Administer medications including antihypertensives, insulin drips, magnesium sulfate therapy, pitocin, and terbutaline.
• Perform neonatal care duties including APGAR scoring, ID/security banding, and radiant warmer/thermoregulation management.
• Support patients with epidural and general anesthesia, pain management, and PCA use.
• Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible for the position.
• RTO must be submitted with application and some holiday coverage is expected.
• Facility conducts its own onsite drug screen including marijuana testing upon arrival; a positive result results in automatic cancellation.
