Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Nurse for Labor and Delivery in California. The role requires expert sterile vaginal examination skills, active CA RN license, and AWHONN Advanced certification. Epic EMR experience and obstetric triage expertise are essential.

The position features a demanding night shift (7:00 PM–7:30 AM) with 1:2 patient ratio, occasional floating to Mother Baby, and travel-friendly benefits including housing and licensure reimbursements.

Qualifications

• Active California RN license is required.
• 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience with a minimum of 1.5 years.
• Expert-level, independent sterile vaginal exam skills required.
• Experience with triage of obstetrical patients.
• Fetal monitoring experience including external and internal monitoring.
• Experience with high-risk obstetrics and deliveries.
• Experience with labor and delivery pharmacology including Pitocin and Magnesium Sulfate.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive labor and delivery nursing care including antepartum, postpartum, and newborn care.
• Perform sterile vaginal exams and assist with deliveries, including high-risk obstetric patients.
• Support breastfeeding and lactation per baby-friendly protocols.
• Operate within Epic EMR system for charting.
• Night shift coverage 7:00 PM–7:30 AM; patient care with 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio.
• Floating to Mother Baby unit as needed.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Labor and Delivery position requiring expert, independent sterile vaginal exam skills and AWHONN Advanced certification.

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• Current certifications: ACLS, AWHONN Advanced, BLS, NRP
• 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience required, with 1.5 years as an absolute minimum
• Expert-level, independent sterile vaginal exam skills required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Experience with triage of obstetrical patients required
• Skills in fetal monitoring, including external and internal fetal monitoring, and IUPC placement
• Experience assisting with high risk and vaginal deliveries, and circulating/scrubbing for C-sections
• Experience with labor and delivery medication administration including Pitocin and Magnesium Sulfate therapy
• Full SSN and DOB required for submission
• Two supervisory references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years required

Responsibilities

• Acute care hospital setting with 320 staffed beds
• Labor and Delivery unit
• Patient ratio of 1:2
• Night shift, 3x12 hours (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
• Every other weekend required, may exceed to meet unit needs
• Floating to Mother Baby unit required
• No on-call requirements
• Uses Epic EMR system
• Royal blue scrubs for RN, L&D/OR scrubs provided
• Provide comprehensive labor and delivery nursing care including antepartum, postpartum, and newborn care
• Perform sterile vaginal exams, assist with deliveries, and manage high-risk obstetric patients
• Support breastfeeding and lactation per baby friendly protocols
• Must reside within 50 miles for local candidate consideration at a lower bill rate
• First-time travelers are accepted for this position
• RTO must be submitted and finalized at time of submission; minimal additional time off requests can be accommodated post-submission
• Former Providence permanent staff must wait at least 3 months before returning as a traveler and must live outside a 50-mile radius
• Candidates must disclose any prior work history with Providence facilities, including dates and location
