Job summary

American Traveler, LLC. is hiring an experienced Neuro ICU RN for night shifts in a high-acuity hospital setting. The role requires a valid MD or Compact RN license, BLS/ACLS, and a minimum of 2 years in ICU, with Neuro ICU experience preferred.

CPI and NIHSS certifications are a plus. In this 22-bed Neuro ICU, nurses manage ICP monitors, EVDs, ventilators, arterial lines, and complex neuro conditions, with a 1:2–1:3 ratio and 3x12-hour shifts.

Qualifications

• Previous charge nurse experience preferred.
• Neuro ICU/ICU experience in teaching, community, or Trauma Level I settings preferred.

Responsibilities

• Neuro ICU nursing in a 22-bed unit with approx. 21 daily census.
• Care for adult and geriatric patients with complex neurological diagnoses.
• Maintain 1:2 patient ratio, up to 1:3 for stable lower-acuity patients.
• Operate ICP monitors, EVDs, EEG, ventilators, arterial lines, cooling devices, and ICU beds.
• Document in Epic charting system; float as needed within the specialty.
• Work 3x12-hour night shifts (07:00–19:30) with every other weekend.

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Neuro ICU RN for a night shift position requiring 2 years of experience and an active MD or Compact RN license.

Requirements

• Active MD or Compact RN license required
• BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA only)
• CPI and NIHSS certifications preferred
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Teaching hospital, community hospital, and Trauma Level I experience preferred
• 1:3 patient ratio experience preferred
• Skilled in arterial line management, central line care, ventilator management, and ABG interpretation
• Experience with EVD, ICP monitoring, and hypothermia protocol preferred
• Experience with CRRT/CVVHD, massive transfusion protocol, and titrating vasoactive drips preferred

Responsibilities

• Neuro Intensive Care Unit setting within a hospital
• 22-bed unit with an average daily census of 21 patients
• Adult and geriatric patient population with complex neurological diagnoses including acute ischemic stroke, ICH, SAH, TBI, status epilepticus, and post-craniotomy care
• Patient ratio of 1:2, up to 1:3 with stable, lower acuity patients
• Utilizes specialized equipment including ICP monitors, EVDs, continuous EEG, mechanical ventilators, arterial line monitoring, cooling devices, and specialty ICU beds
• Epic charting system preferred
• 3x12-hour day shifts from 07:00 to 19:30
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required within specialty to lower acuity units as needed
• No pre-scheduled on-call required
• Provide critical care nursing to neurologically complex and critically ill patients
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Holiday coverage required as scheduled
• First-time travelers with strong Neuro ICU skills and experience will be considered
• Candidates must reside 50+ miles from the facility to be eligible unless otherwise specified
• Returning former staff must have been separated from the health system for at least 12 months
• Returning travelers must have at least a 6-month break from the system before returning
• Maximum RTO request of 7 days; requests of more than 4 consecutive days require an additional week added to the contract
