Job summary

American Traveler is hiring a Travel RN for the Emergency Department in White Hall, West Virginia. This position requires at least 2 years ER experience and WV or Compact RN license. Night shifts 3x12s, 36 hrs/week, with Cerner charting and high-acuity trauma care.

You will manage 1:4 patient ratios, perform EKGs, and handle a range of medical and psychiatric emergencies in a fast-paced ED. Eligible candidates should have ACLS/BLS/NIHSS/PALS certifications and prior travel nursing experience.

Qualifications

  • Active WV or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted for consideration.
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required.
  • Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS.
  • Preferred certifications: CPI, MAB, NRP, TNCC.
  • Cerner charting experience required.
  • Prior travel nursing experience required.
  • Community hospital experience preferred.
  • Minimum 2 Manager and/or Charge Nurse references from the past 2 years required.
  • Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and central line care/management.
  • Skilled in ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, and chest tube insertion/management.
  • Skilled in interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)
  • Skilled in intubation procedures
  • Experience managing violent behavior and psychiatric holds
  • Experience identifying and reporting abuse or neglect
  • Experience with isolation precautions and PPE protocols
  • Experience with triage processes

Responsibilities

  • Combined ED serving adult and pediatric patients.
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00 to 07:00.
  • Patient ratio of 1:4.
  • Cerner charting system used.
  • Handles shock/trauma cases, gunshot wounds, and traumatic amputations.
  • Cardiac monitoring and emergency response duties, including dysrhythmia interpretation and management.
  • Manages patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure.
  • Performs 12-lead EKG/ECG acquisition.
  • Provides care for psychiatric and behavioral health emergencies.
  • Handles pediatric emergencies including asthma, seizures, and head injuries.
  • Administers procedural sedation and manages continuous IV sedation/paralytics.
  • Performs orthopedic trauma care including splinting

  • Provide emergency care across a wide range of medical, psychiatric, neurological, and trauma presentations
  • Deliver care in a fast-paced, high-acuity ER environment
  • Candidates must have a permanent address greater than 100 miles from the facility; those between 75–100 miles may be considered on a case-by-case basis
  • Former permanent employees must wait 2 years from their last date of employment before returning as a traveler
  • Current employees of the affiliated health system (including CAMC Health Systems, Mon Health Systems, Davis Medical Center, Broaddus Hospital, Webster Memorial Hospital, Grafton City Hospital, Highland-Clarksburg Hospital, and Minnie Hamilton Health System) are not eligible for this travel contract
  • Previous probationary license actions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis
