Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a Patient Service Center Phlebotomist to join our growing team. You’ll perform specimen collections, verify patient data, and serve as the face of the BILH Laboratories to patients across centers.

Responsibilities include venipuncture and capillary collection, processing specimens for transport, and maintaining accurate records. The role requires strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and in a team setting.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED. Associate’s Degree or college classes welcomed.
• Phlebotomy certification from ASCP or another accredited agency preferred.
• Previous experience as a phlebotomist preferred.
• One or more years experience in lab Patient Service Centers preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently or in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent phlebotomy and phlebotomy-related services for all patients.
• Validate and/or update patient demographics and information in the BILH computer system for patients with existing lab orders; collect data for others.
• Collect specimens by venipuncture and capillary techniques for all age groups.
• Prepare specimens for transport via courier to a BILH laboratory.
• Perform administrative duties to open, operate, and close the Patient Service Center daily.
• Assist in training, coaching, and mentoring PSC Phlebotomists as directed by the Phlebotomy Supervisor.
• Travel to additional Patient Service Centers and doctor’s office sites as needed.
• Read, understand, and comply with departmental policies and procedures.
• Report to and take direction from the Phlebotomy Supervisor; participate in QA programs and continuing education.
• Provide high levels of patient and provider satisfaction through quality service.
• Perform other similar tasks per supervisor or manager requests.
