Job summary

BRC - Bowery Residents' Committee, Inc. in Manhattan, New York, is seeking a Community Technician to provide frontline support for individuals experiencing homelessness, including crisis moments, safety, and daily operations.

This is a full-time role (37.5 hours/week) with 7am-3:30pm shifts Sunday through Thursday likely, and mandatory overtime. Training, certifications, and advancement opportunities are provided.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Strong communication skills and basic computer proficiency.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Willingness to obtain required certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe, orderly residential environment through active monitoring and rounds.
  • Engage residents using trauma-informed and de-escalation techniques.
  • Respond to conflicts, safety concerns, and crises professionally.
  • Screen residents and visitors while maintaining dignity and security.
  • Provide emergency support (First Aid/CPR, Narcan – training provided).
  • Complete documentation (logbooks, incident reports, progress notes).
  • Support fire safety procedures, inspections, and compliance.
  • Assist with meals, escorts, inventory, and facility upkeep.
