Job summary

Bowery Residents' Committee (BRC) seeks a Community Technician to provide a steady, compassionate presence for individuals experiencing homelessness, often during crises or transitions. This frontline role emphasizes trauma-informed care, de-escalation, safety, and support for daily routines.

No prior shelter experience required; you’ll receive structured training and opportunities for certification, with paths to case management and leadership.

Qualifications

• Requires a High School diploma or GED.
• Must possess strong communication skills and basic computer proficiency.
• Ability to stay calm under pressure and maintain professional boundaries.
• Willingness to obtain required certifications (CPR/First Aid, Narcan, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, orderly residential environment through active monitoring and rounds.
• Engage residents using trauma-informed and de-escalation techniques.
• Respond to conflicts, safety concerns, and crises professionally.
• Screen residents and visitors while maintaining dignity and security.
• Provide emergency support (First Aid/CPR, Narcan – training provided).
• Complete documentation (logbooks, incident reports, progress notes).
• Support fire safety procedures, inspections, and compliance.
• Assist with meals, escorts, inventory, and facility upkeep.
