Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson is seeking a traffic engineer to design traffic signals, roadway lighting, and ITS interconnections. Role includes corridor-level signal timing, field tuning, and collaboration with multiple disciplines on Smart Mobility projects.

The candidate will review surveys and plans, develop construction estimates, and prepare contract documents. Requires ABET accredited degree and 5–10 years’ experience; PE licensed or EIT with licensure path.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, systems, or civil engineering from ABET-accredited program.
  • 5–10 years of experience in a specialized discipline.
  • Active PE license (for civil candidates) or EIT with plan to obtain NC/SC PE license within 6 months.
  • Must pass JMT Motor Vehicle screening.

Responsibilities

  • Traffic signal and roadway lighting design, including CAD and field work.
  • ITS, signal interconnection, and emerging traffic technology design.
  • Signal timing at a corridor level with field-based tuning.
  • Support of traffic safety and Smart Mobility projects.
  • Signal cabinet wiring and signal controller programming.
  • Analyze survey data, maps and drawings to plan projects.
  • Prepare contract plans, specs and construction estimates.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines and conduct quality reviews.

Education

ABET-accredited engineering program
PE license (civil candidates)
EIT certification acceptable
