Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson is seeking a Traffic Engineer to design signals, lighting, and ITS systems. You will work on corridor-level signal timing, safety projects, and Smart Mobility initiatives across the southeastern US.

The role requires 5–10 years of discipline experience, an ABET-accredited engineering degree, and an optional PE path for civil candidates with EIT eligibility and licensure within 6 months. On-site work in the southeastern US with client coordination is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, systems, or civil engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • 5–10 years' experience in the relevant discipline.
  • PE license required for civil candidates; EIT acceptable if able to obtain NC and SC PE within 6 months of hire.
  • Current US state driver’s license.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with clients across the southeastern US without AI assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Traffic signal and roadway lighting design, including CAD and field work.
  • ITS, signal interconnection, and emerging traffic technology design.
  • Signal timing at a corridor level with field-based adjustments.
  • Support of traffic safety projects and Smart Mobility initiatives.
  • Prepare and review contract plans, specs, and estimates.
  • Attend client meetings and assist with meeting minutes.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines to fit into the project design.
  • Quality review of project design per the Project Management Plan.
  • Provide technical oversight to Traffic Design Engineers.
