Region: Georgia

About Better Earth

Better Earth is a leading provider of sustainable packaging solutions committed to making sustainability accessible. Our products meet the highest sustainability standards at competitive prices, and we are driven by three core pillars: sustainability, innovation, and experience. Beyond our products, we actively promote environmental initiatives across our supply chain and educate stakeholders on creating a circular economy.

Our Culture

At Better Earth, we are dedicated to environmental stewardship and uphold our mission with integrity. Our team thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative, and innovative environment. We seek team players who are proactive, adaptable, and eager to contribute.

We also embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion—over three-quarters of our team are women or BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and/or People of Color). We value creative thinkers who bring their whole selves, voices, and fresh perspectives to work.

We operate in a fast-paced environment, which means we need team players who are comfortable rolling up their sleeves, speaking up, asking questions, innovating, building processes, pivoting when necessary, and loving learning.

The Basics

  • Location: Remote work, role-based in Atlanta, GA metro area.
  • Commitment: The Territory Sales Manager role is a full-time position that requires some overnight travel and a flexible work schedule, including some weekends to support industry trade shows and events.
  • Compensation: The role includes a competitive base salary, plus you will be eligible for an annual bonus based on sales performance and meeting individual, team, and company goals. Additionally, all employees are eligible for Better Earth’s profit-sharing program, and employees with a tenure of three or more years are eligible for Better Earth’s Equity Program and Dividends.

The Position

The Territory Sales Manager - Atlanta will report directly to the Regional Sales Manager - Southeast. 80% of the Territory Sales Manager's time will be committed to direct engagement selling, focused on selling large end-users (operators, chains), independently and alongside our broker and compost partners. The remaining time and workload will be dedicated to ongoing account management, strategic planning, and administrative work. This role requires maximum time in the field selling.

Key Responsibilities

1. Sales Strategy and Execution:

  • Drive sales of Better Earth products through defined strategic channels.
  • Collaborate with broker and compost partners to boost sales and market share by providing accurate and timely responses to pricing, inventory, and problem-resolution requests.
  • Utilize data-driven sales tools and technology to communicate the Better Earth mission and showcase product value effectively.
  • Customize advanced selling strategies and tools to achieve sales goals and sustainable results.

2. Territory Management:

  • Analyze and evaluate business performance in the territory (KPIs, trends, gaps, and opportunities). Develop and execute solutions to close gaps.
  • Prepare compelling sales presentations using fact-based data to secure long-term growth in C&U, Fast Casual, and Healthcare channels.
  • Participate in sales conferences and meetings as required.

3. Community Engagement and Brand Representation:

  • Serve as a brand ambassador by attending an average of 2-3 monthly events, such as farmers markets, sustainability summits, and fundraisers (with seasonality considerations).
  • Identify opportunities from these events and manage leads through a CRM system for effective follow-up.
  • Foster partnerships and organize events by building strong relationships with local community groups (e.g., Fresh Harvest, CompostNow, Georgia Compost Council) and impact-driven businesses.
  • Manage local direct relationships and support circularity customers like Georgia Tech and Stop Think Chew.

4. Marketing and Social Media:

  • Promote key Better Earth announcements via social media channels.
  • Articulate the Better Earth story and sustainability values to diverse audiences, from schools to conference attendees.

5. Event Management:

  • Oversee product donations and coordinate local community events.
  • Manage an event budget (proposed $800–$1,000 per month) and collaborate with the finance team to optimize spending.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in sales, preferably in the food service or packaging industry.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to measure and evaluate performance metrics.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of CRM tools and sales technologies.
  • Passion for sustainability and community engagement.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with sustainability-focused initiatives and circularity practices.
  • Established connections in the Georgia markets.

Your Fit

Qualities we are looking for in an ideal candidate include:

  • You’re a go-getter! You’re self-motivated, organized, and feel no task is too big or small.
  • You’re open, honest, and authentic in all you do!
  • You’re a people person. Your enthusiasm is contagious, and you feel comfortable telling the Better Earth story one-on-one, in the conference room, or on stage.
  • You can control a room. Sales is often a dance; you have experience navigating push-back, objections, and/or negotiation until your goals are met.
  • You’re motivated by revenue goals. Numbers don’t dissuade you; they excite you. You know how to navigate pain points or bottlenecks to hit your goals creatively, and you feel confident speaking up to revise them promptly if they feel no longer relevant.
  • You’re passionate about the role of business in solving big problems. You’re motivated by the impact sales can bring to solving real-world environmental issues and understanding your critical role as an educator, storyteller, and solutions provider.
  • You connect the dots. Whether it's partners, processes, environmental problems, or products, you understand all the puzzle pieces at play, enjoy finding ways to fit them together, and close the loop when possible.
  • You love trying new things. As a start-up, we’re constantly exploring new product lines, services, or approaches, and you will help create and bring these ideas to life and extract insights every step of the way.
  • You’re a strong communicator and writer. You’re professional, concise, and clear. You can effortlessly adapt your style to engage everyone, from executives to elementary school students.
  • You like using both sides of your brain. You’re just as comfortable with Excel as with Word, so you can win the deal and build the quote, employing all pricing nuances and terms as necessary.

It is even better if you have the following experience:

  • 5+ years of sales and/or packaging experience
  • Proven understanding of sales principles and customer service practices
  • Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment
  • Proficiency in using sales technologies, such as CRMs, ERPs, and Microsoft 365
