Job summary

The State of Minnesota is seeking Temporary Snowplow Operators in the Transportation Department. These emergency, intermittent roles support snow and ice operations across District 6A—various locations including Albert Lea, Austin, Rochester, and Winona.

Positions involve night/day shifts, overtime, and potential weekend work; CDL is required with endorsements within 6 months. Immediate reporting and safety checks are emphasized throughout the season.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Class A or B CDL with no Airbrake Restriction and obtain Class A CDL with no Airbrake Restriction and Tanker Endorsement within 6 months.
• Must pass pre-employment drug test for marijuana, cocaine, opiates, PCP, amphetamines, and morphine derivatives.
• Must pass background checks including criminal history, references, education/license verification, and driving record.
• Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand information; able to communicate with the public.

Responsibilities

• Maintains roadways for snow and ice control.
• Prepares and inspects winter equipment.
• Performs preseason snow route inspection and post-storm cleanup.
• Handles winter stockpile setup and transfer of anti-icing/de-icing chemicals.
• Installs, repairs, maintains, and removes snow fences; replaces mailboxes.
• Maintains documentation on snow and ice data for inventory and resource management.
• Performs traffic control setups and notifies dispatch of disabled vehicles.
