Job summary

State of Minnesota is seeking Temporary Snowplow Operators for MnDOT District 6A, with locations in Albert Lea, Austin, Dresbach, Owatonna, Red Wing, Rochester, Stewartville, and Winona. Positions are temporary or emergency, with snow/ice shifts and possible overtime.

CDL required; pre-employment drug test and background checks apply. Shifts are typically 12-hour blocks during snow events, with on-call reporting within one hour of call.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no Airbrake Restriction or equivalent from another state and obtain a valid Class A CDL with no Airbrake Restriction and Tanker Endorsement within 6 months of initial placement into the position and maintain it as a condition of employment.
• The incumbent in this position will be subject to drug and alcohol testing.
• Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.

Responsibilities

• Maintains roadways for snow and ice control.
• Prepares and inspects winter equipment.
• Performs preseason snow route inspection and performs post storm cleanup.
• Performs winter stockpile setup and transfer of anti-icing and de-icing chemicals.
• Performs all work related to installing, repairing, maintaining, and removing snow fences; replacing mailboxes.
• Maintain documentation on snow and ice data for accurate reporting of inventory and resource management.
• Performs traffic control set-ups and/or provides notification to dispatch of disabled vehicles.
