Position Summary

Pearson Virtual Schools (PVS) is hiring a Systems Administrator, local to Baltimore Maryland, to join our team managing School IT Services for customers nationwide. Candidates should have practical experience in supporting and administering various IT services. We seek someone with hands-on experience and the ability to manage and "get things done" in a highly technical environment. Professional customer service skills and independent troubleshooting are essential.

Position Details

This position is 95% remote work, with 5% in person for events, school visits, or office work at the Pearson location. Employees must have the means to work remotely, adhering to policies on home office setup, privacy, and equipment standards.

Equipment provided by the company:

  • 2 Primary Laptops and up to 10 test devices/peripherals
  • 4 External Monitors
  • Additional hardware for supporting multiple primary computers and test devices

Equipment to be provided by the employee:

  • Headset (required)
  • Keyboard (required)
  • Mouse (required)
Overall Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support and solutions, including planning, configuration, implementation, upgrade, and maintenance of school technology and applications.
  • Assist with escalated support issues, resolving customer problems using troubleshooting techniques.
  • Troubleshoot daily technical issues for internal and external customers.
  • Administer and troubleshoot Windows, ChromeOS, ChromeOS Flex, Apple iPads, printers, and related applications.
  • Configure devices for staff and students, ensuring access to required tools.
  • Manage servers, including domain controllers, web servers, Linux, SharePoint, DNS/DHCP, and others.
  • Gather and assess application functions related to customer needs.
  • Mentor Service Desk teams supporting customers.
  • Serve as primary escalation point, managing tickets via various channels.
  • Track, prioritize, and complete tasks across multiple projects.
  • Participate in calls, gather requirements, and collaborate on projects.
  • Document processes, contribute to knowledge base, and perform other duties as assigned.
Technical Capabilities & Proficiencies
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, Entra ID, Exchange, SharePoint, VMs, Endpoint Manager, Active Directory, Windows Server, SQL, Google Workspace, Google Cloud, DNS, DHCP, IIS, and scripting with PowerShell.
Experience and Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3 years in systems administration in a large enterprise.
  • Availability for on-call, evenings, weekends, and critical outages.
  • Strong communication, organization, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to work remotely in a secure environment with broadband access.
