Position Summary

Pearson Virtual Schools (PVS) is hiring a Systems Administrator, local to Baltimore, Maryland, to join our team managing School IT Services for customers nationwide. Candidates should have practical experience in supporting and administering various IT services. We seek someone with hands-on experience and the ability to manage tasks effectively in a highly technical environment. Professional customer service skills and independent troubleshooting capabilities are essential.

This position will be 95% remote work, with 5% in-person attendance for events, school visits, or office work, adhering to work-from-home policies regarding privacy, technology, and equipment standards.

Overall Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support, solutions planning, configuration, implementation, upgrades, and maintenance of school staff and student technology and applications
  • Assist with escalated support issues, resolving customer problems using troubleshooting techniques
  • Troubleshoot daily technical issues for internal and external customers
  • Administer and troubleshoot Windows (workstation and server), ChromeOS, ChromeOS Flex, Apple iPads, printers, and related applications
  • Manage Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, and Azure environments
  • Configure devices for staff and students, ensuring access to tools and resources
  • Build, deploy, and maintain servers including domain controllers, file and print services, web servers, Linux, SharePoint, DNS/DHCP
  • Gather, evaluate, and assess application functions related to customer needs
  • Mentor Service Desk teams supporting customers
  • Serve as primary escalation point for support requests via ticketing systems, email, IM, or in person
  • Track, prioritize, and complete tasks across multiple projects
  • Participate in conference calls, gather business requirements, and collaborate on projects
  • Create and maintain documentation, standard procedures, and knowledge bases
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Technical Capabilities & Proficiencies
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure (365, Entra ID, Exchange, SharePoint, VMs)
  • Microsoft Endpoint Manager (Intune, Autopilot)
  • On-Prem Active Directory, Windows Workstation and Server Administration, SQL
  • Google Cloud Directory Sync, Google Workspace, Google Voice, Chrome Management
  • Hardware/software configuration, troubleshooting, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, SFTP, IIS Web Servers, Multifunction Devices, Powershell scripting
Experience and Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience
  • At least 3 years in systems administration in a large enterprise environment
  • Availability for on-call, evenings, weekends, and critical outages
  • Strong understanding of technology integration in diverse environments
  • Excellent communication, organization, and multitasking skills
  • Ability to work remotely in a secure, distraction-free environment
  • Broadband internet at home
