Position Summary

Pearson Virtual Schools (PVS) is hiring a Systems Administrator, local to Baltimore, Maryland, to join our team managing School IT Services for our nationwide customers. Candidates should have practical experience in supporting and administering various IT services. We seek someone with hands-on experience and the ability to manage and "get things done" in a highly technical environment. Professional customer service skills and independent troubleshooting are essential.

This position will be 95% work from home, with 5% in person for events, school visits, or office work. Employees must have appropriate remote work capabilities, including adherence to home office policies regarding privacy, technology, and equipment standards.

Overall Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support and solutions, including planning, configuration, implementation, upgrades, and maintenance of school staff and student technology and applications.
  • Assist with escalated support issues, troubleshooting, and daily technical tasks for internal and external customers.
  • Administer and troubleshoot Windows, ChromeOS, ChromeOS Flex, Apple iPads, and printers.
  • Manage apps on Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, and Azure.
  • Configure devices for staff and students, ensuring access to necessary tools.
  • Build, deploy, and maintain servers and services, including domain controllers, web servers, Linux, SharePoint, DNS/DHCP.
  • Gather, evaluate, and assess application functions related to customer needs.
  • Mentor Service Desk teams and serve as primary escalation point.
  • Track tickets, prioritize tasks, and participate in stakeholder calls.
  • Collaborate on projects, document processes, and contribute to knowledge bases.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Technical Capabilities & Proficiencies
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, Entra ID, Exchange, SharePoint, Virtual Machines.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Endpoint Manager, Active Directory, Windows Server, SQL.
  • Familiarity with Google Cloud Directory Sync, Google Workspace, Google Voice, Chrome Management.
  • Hardware/software troubleshooting, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, SFTP, IIS, print devices, Powershell scripting.
Experience and Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3 years in systems administration in a large enterprise environment.
  • Availability for on-call, evenings, weekends, and critical outages.
  • Strong communication, organization, multitasking, and remote work capabilities.
  • Broadband at home and a distraction-free environment.
