Position Summary

Pearson Virtual Schools (PVS) is hiring a Systems Administrator, local to Baltimore, Maryland, to join our team managing School IT Services for our nationwide customers. Candidates should have practical experience in supporting and administering various IT services, with the ability to manage and troubleshoot effectively in a highly technical environment. Professional customer service skills and independent troubleshooting capabilities are essential.

This position is primarily remote (95%), with occasional in-person visits for events, school visits, or office work. Employees must have the necessary remote work setup, adhering to company policies regarding privacy, technology, and equipment standards.

The equipment provided by the company includes:

  • 2 primary laptops and up to 10 test devices/peripherals
  • 4 external monitors
  • Additional hardware supporting multiple primary computers and test devices

Employees must provide:

  • Headset (required)
  • Keyboard (required)
  • Mouse (required)

Overall Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support, planning, coordination, and maintenance of school staff and student technology and applications
  • Assist with escalated support issues, resolving customer problems using proven troubleshooting techniques
  • Administer and troubleshoot Windows, ChromeOS, ChromeOS Flex, macOS, and printers
  • Manage Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, and Azure environments
  • Configure devices for staff and students, ensuring access to necessary tools
  • Build, deploy, and maintain servers (domain controllers, file/print, web, Linux, SharePoint, DNS/DHCP)
  • Gather and assess application functions related to customer needs
  • Mentor Service Desk teams and serve as primary escalation point
  • Track tickets and prioritize tasks across multiple projects
  • Participate in conference calls and gather requirements from stakeholders
  • Collaborate on team projects, ensuring timely completion of technical tasks
  • Create and follow standard procedures and document processes
  • Maintain a knowledge base repository
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Technical Capabilities & Proficiencies

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, Entra ID, Exchange, SharePoint, Virtual Machines
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Endpoint Manager (Intune, Autopilot)
  • Experience with Active Directory, Windows Server, SQL, Google Cloud Directory Sync, Google Workspace, Google Voice, Chrome Management
  • Hardware/software configuration and troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge of DNS, DHCP, SMTP, SFTP, IIS web servers, multifunction printers
  • Powershell scripting

Operational support, troubleshooting, provisioning, design, installation, configuration, administration, and maintenance of these systems are included.

Experience And Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3 years in systems administration in a large enterprise environment
  • Availability for on-call, evening, and weekend work, including critical outages
  • Ability to work remotely in a secure, distraction-free environment with broadband access
  • Strong communication, organizational, and multitasking skills
  • Customer-focused, flexible, team-oriented, and able to work independently
