Ohio State University seeks a Switchboard Operator for the 2nd shift to serve as the frontline contact in Health System Shared Services. This role answers, routes, triages critical and non-critical calls and uses an integrated telephony system to communicate with the care teams.

The operator will work 3 pm–11:30 pm with every-other weekend. A high school diploma or GED is required, and 1 year of relevant experience is expected; 2–4 years is preferred.

Scope of Position

Serves as the primary contact person for all of OSUMC healthcare network which functions as a centralized information hub within the medical center. This position answers, routes and triages critical and non‑critical calls 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. This position involves screening for patient information; digital paging; public address announcements; answers, communicates and documents emergent calls; handles after‑hours answering service calls; maintains database and on‑call schedules; provides technical support for or pager issues; supports assigned weekend on‑call rotations & trains new staff (other duties as assigned)

Position Summary

Responsible for superior front-line customer service while processing internal and external communications through an integrated computer telephony system. This role involves multi-tasking within several computer applications and the ability to think critically in a fast-paced 24/7 business environment. The ability to quickly gather critical information and electronically communicate to the correct team is vital to this role. The capability to learn quickly and readily adapt to ongoing change to technology and process is essential for success in this role. Our switchboard operators play a critical role in the success of the medical center operations and take pride in caring for our patients & customers

Minimum Qualifications

Must be available to work 3 pm to 11:30 pm, every other weekend. High School diploma or GED. Certification or vocational training may be preferred. 1 year of relevant experience required. 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred.
