Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a dispatcher/operator to handle phone calls, route inquiries, and dispatch clinical staff. The role includes operating a telephone control board, paging, and on-call coordination during and after standard hours.

The position requires high school diploma, strong MS Office skills (Excel), and excellent communication and customer service abilities. Flexible shifts, weekend work, and potential signing bonus are noted in the posting.

Qualifications

  • Must have knowledge and experience with MS Office products (specifically Excel).
  • Must have accurate keyboarding skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills to include proper vocabulary, spelling, grammar and sentence structure.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Must be able to work all shifts, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Preferred: Previous operator/switchboard and customer service experience.

Responsibilities

  • Processes paperwork in an efficient manner according to set procedures. This includes proper filing and distribution of clinical on-call schedules and wireless devices.
  • Complies with established departmental policies, procedures and objectives.

  • Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
  • Respects diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
  • Maintains, regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other similar and related duties as required.

Exemption Status: Non-Exempt

Hiring Range: $15.00 - $27.00

Please note that the final offer may vary within this range based on a candidate’s experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity considerations.

II. Position Qualifications:
  • License/Certification/Education:
  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred: Medical Terminology certified or equivalent experience.
  • Experience/Skills:
  • Required: Must have knowledge and experience with MS Office products (specifically EXCEL).
  • Required: Must have accurate keyboarding skills.
  • Required: Good verbal and written communication skills to include proper vocabulary, spelling, grammar and sentence structure.
  • Required: Good customer service skills.
  • Required: Must be able to work all shifts, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Preferred: Previous operator/switchboard and customer service experience.
  • Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
  • Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.
III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:

Work is considered sedentary. Position requires work indoors in a normal office environment.
