Schedule: Full-Time | Monday-Friday
Employment Type: Exempt
Travel: Up to 20% (occasional overnight travel)

The Opportunity

An established and growing surveying organization is seeking a Survey Project Manager to lead the successful execution of land surveying projects from proposal through final delivery.

You'll oversee diverse surveying projects, manage field and office teams, maintain strong client relationships, and ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and with the highest level of accuracy.

What You'll Do

As the Survey Project Manager, you'll serve as the primary driver of project success, balancing technical excellence, client satisfaction, team development, and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage multiple surveying projects from kickoff through final deliverables
  • Develop project scopes, proposals, schedules, budgets, and resource plans
  • Coordinate field crews, survey technicians, and CAD production staff
  • Review survey data, plats, legal descriptions, mapping, and deliverables for quality and accuracy
  • Monitor project progress, budgets, and schedules to ensure successful project execution
  • Identify risks, resolve challenges, and implement solutions to keep projects moving forward
  • Serve as the primary client contact and trusted advisor throughout the project lifecycle
  • Provide technical oversight for:
    • Boundary Surveys
    • Topographic Surveys
    • Construction Layout & Stakeout
    • ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys
    • Control Networks
    • Mapping and Geospatial Projects
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and project requirements
  • Mentor and develop junior survey professionals and project staff
  • Support business development efforts, client retention, and relationship growth
  • Review and approve final survey deliverables and project documentation
What We're Looking For
Surveying Expertise
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Boundary Surveying
    • Topographic Surveying
    • Construction Surveying
    • ALTA/NSPS Survey Standards
  • Ability to interpret:
    • Deeds
    • Easements
    • Plats
    • Legal Descriptions
    • Title Documents
  • Familiarity with Virginia surveying regulations and industry standards
  • Knowledge of survey control, data collection, and quality assurance procedures
  • Experience utilizing modern surveying technology including GPS/GNSS and robotic total stations
Software Experience
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Trimble Business Center (TBC) or comparable survey software
  • Microsoft Office Suite
Leadership & Project Management
  • Proven experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong budgeting, forecasting, scheduling, and resource planning capabilities
  • Effective leadership and team development skills
  • Strong communication and client-facing abilities
  • Ability to balance project quality, timelines, profitability, and client expectations
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
Qualifications
Required
  • 5+ years of progressive land surveying experience
  • Experience managing survey projects from field data collection through final deliverables
  • Experience leading survey personnel, field crews, and technical teams
  • Valid Driver's License
Preferred
  • Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) License
  • Virginia PLS or ability to obtain Virginia licensure through reciprocity
  • Prior experience managing large-scale land development, infrastructure, transportation, or construction-related projects

Work Environment & Travel

This role combines office-based project management with occasional field involvement.

You should be comfortable:

  • Visiting active construction and development sites
  • Walking uneven terrain when project needs require field support
  • Working with survey teams in dynamic environments
  • Traveling up to 20% for project coordination, client meetings, and multi-office collaboration
  • Occasionally lifting and carrying survey equipment up to 50 pounds

Pay Details: $90,000.00 to $150,000.00 per year
