Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• BLS certification required. May require state regulatory agency registration.
• Manual dexterity and ability to stay calm in stressful, emergent situations.
• Conscientious, organized, and able to respond quickly to surgeon and patient needs.

Responsibilities

• Prepares for surgical procedures, pulls instruments and supplies, and checks instrument working order.
• Anticipates surgeon needs, passes instruments, retracts tissue, and operates equipment during surgery.
• Maintains aseptic technique and universal precautions, disposes of sharps, and assists in case cart processing.
• Ensures accuracy of surgeon preference cards and pick lists.
• Assists with OR turnover, stocking, replenishing supplies and cleaning operating rooms.
• Provides potential business support to department, including administrative tasks.
