Job summary

UCI Health, part of the University of California, Irvine, seeks an experienced Scheduling Clerk to coordinate surgery and diagnostic procedures. You will ensure paperwork is completed, determine funding eligibility, and secure dates with physician and OR availability.

The role requires strong English communication, MS Office proficiency, and the ability to travel to off-site practices. You will liaise with admissions, departments, and the OR, updating all stakeholders on schedule changes.

Qualifications

• Experience with computer registration and a registration scheduling system.
• General understanding of medical terminology.
• Customer service skills appropriate to the job.
• Weekend, holiday, and evening availability.
• At least 1 year recent experience registering patients in a hospital or clinic, or in medical billing.
• Knowledge of ICD9 and CPT codes.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication.
• Experience using MS Office.
• Ability to travel to off-site physician practices.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System.

Responsibilities

• Schedule clinic patients for surgery and diagnostic procedures.
• Ensure all necessary paperwork is completed and forwarded to appropriate departments.
• Determine if patient funding covers proposed surgery/procedure and check expiration dates.
• Verify physician documentation reflects need for proposed surgery/procedure.
• Obtain surgery/procedure date and time based on physician availability and OR schedule.
• Communicate with patients to obtain demographic and financial data.
• Provide accurate wait time estimates when available.
• Act as liaison between admissions, other departments and operating room.
• Notify departments, services, physicians and patient if date/time changes and update as necessary.
• Input demographic and financial data into the SMS System following basic flows and codes.
