Job summary

UC San Diego Health is seeking a skilled clinical scheduler and coordinator to provide critical administrative and surgical support within the Orthopedics Clinic. You will be responsible for scheduling procedures, obtaining authorizations, and coordinating with OR staff, pre-op clinics, anesthesia, and admissions to ensure smooth patient flow.

The role requires experience with surgical scheduling, orthopedic knowledge, and strong communication with patients, families, and physicians.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of experience with scheduling and authorization in a hospital setting.
• Three (3) or more years of recent surgery scheduling experience, especially Spine Scheduling.
• Six (6) months to one (1) year orthopedic experience.
• Knowledge of third-party payors including federal, state, and private health plans.
• Excellent communication skills and customer service.

Responsibilities

• Provide chief clinical and administrative support for the surgical practice.
• Coordinate patient affairs by applying knowledge of surgical and clinic authorization.
• Schedule surgical procedures by coordinating OR, schedulers, pre-op clinics, anesthesia, and admissions.
• Manage Operating Room or Procedure Room schedule times.
• Handle clinical schedules and surgical appointments and obtain required authorizations for surgery-related orders.
• Communicate surgery time and location with patients, families, and the Surgeon.
• Enter patient information into the EPIC system and support other clinic processes.
• Support and communicate with patients to ensure timely provider care and participate in process improvement.
