Job summary

UC San Diego is seeking a Surgery Scheduler Lead to oversee back-end duties including call center, referrals, authorizations, and scheduling workflows. The role provides leadership, coaching, and process improvement for a complex surgical scheduling team under the Clinic Manager.

Ideal candidates bring 4+ years in a large healthcare setting, strong coordination of calendars, and experience with insurance authorizations and hospital OR scheduling. Bilingual Spanish/English is preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum of four (4) years' related experience in a large complex healthcare setting.
• Lead duties and back-up support for surgery schedulers/clinical care coordinators.
• Experience with timekeeping and managing staff schedules.
• Scheduling, registration and authorization experience.
• Experience with health insurance companies and community medical groups.
• Knowledge of HMO, PPO, POS, etc.
• Coordinating complex calendars for meetings, events, programs and appointments.
• Coordinating surgical cases and OR scheduling.
• Producing letters, correspondence and reports with tables/graphs.
• Strong editing and proofreading with clear correspondence; excellent English grammar.

Responsibilities

• Oversees back end duties such as call center, referrals, authorizations, and templates.
• Provides leadership and training for junior staff and serves as a department resource.
• Implements improvement efforts under Clinic Manager guidance; supports front desk as needed.
