Job summary

UC San Diego Health is seeking a surgical scheduler to provide chief clinical and administrative support for the surgical practice. You will coordinate patient affairs, schedule procedures, and obtain necessary authorizations, ensuring timely communication with patients and surgeons.

Under supervision, you will process patient information in EPIC, assist multiple departments, and support clinic operations. Strong scheduling experience, especially Spine/Orthopedic, and excellent communication are

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of experience with scheduling and authorization in a hospital setting.
• Three (3) or more years of surgery scheduling experience, particularly Spine Scheduling.
• Six (6) months to one (1) year orthopedic experience.
• Knowledge of third-party payors including federal, state and private health plans.
• Excellent communication skill and good customer service.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate patient affairs by applying knowledge of surgical and clinic authorization.
• Schedule surgical procedures and manage the logistics of OR, schedulers, pre-op clinics, anesthesia and admissions.
• Obtain authorizations for surgery related orders such as DME/HH and PT post-surgery.
• Communicate surgery time and location with patients, family members, and Surgeon.
• Process all patient information into the UCSD EPIC system and liaise with surgeons and departments.
• Provide clinical support to the department and cover for other schedulers as needed.
• Assist in clinic process improvements and prioritize tasks in a team environment.
