Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a scheduling specialist to manage daily patient scheduling for the Surgery Center. The role requires clear verbal communication and solid knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codes, with scheduling done primarily in software and occasionally manually.

Responsibilities include gathering patient data, verifying insurance, coordinating with clinical staff, explaining payment policies, and obtaining service authorization numbers from physicians.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; 1-3 years in a medical office environment preferred.
• Experience with diagnosis and procedures is a plus and familiarity with medical terminology.
• Proven skills using computer, email, Outlook and Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel and Word.

Responsibilities

• Gathers information to schedule patients and secures proper patient identification.
• Researches and verifies the most current insurance information for claims.
• Coordinates with clinical staff to ensure proper rooms, equipment and staff.
• Explains payment policies and negotiates balances with patients or responsible parties.
• Regularly calls physician providers to obtain service authorization numbers.
• Understands insurance payment methods and implant reimbursement where applicable.
• May train as a backup biller or assist with insurance follow-up and collections.
