Job summary

Sargent & Lundy seeks a Physical Designer to join a project team focused on high and extra high voltage substation design in the United States. You will prepare substation drawings, equipment plans, and grounding details, while coordinating with engineers on 3D visualization and related tasks.

The role requires 5 years of telecommunication/substation design, an associate degree in drafting or CAD, proficiency in AutoCAD or MicroStation, and bilingual English/Spanish.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years telecommunication and/or substation physical design experience.
• Associates Degree in Drafting or equivalent.
• Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Telecommunications project or systems design experience in radio, fiber optics and/or network engineering.
• Ability to multi-task from project to project.
• Ability to visualize parts in 3D without the aid of a computer.
• Must be bilingual in Spanish and English (speak, read, and write).

Responsibilities

• Prepare substation drawings including General Arrangement, Electrical Equipment Plans, Section Views, BOM, Grounding and Conduit details.
• Develop network architecture designs based on TDM, SONET, IP/MPLS and other relevant standards.
• Design fail safe systems with path & equipment redundancies & diversity to serve mission-critical operations with extreme reliability.
• Interpreting and incorporating vendor information into design deliverables.
• Performing walkdowns at client facilities.
• Applying Client's standards related to the work.
• Mentoring other designers and drafters.
