Job summary

Ulteig is seeking a Subconsultant Lead Engineer to manage technical leadership on subconsultant-based projects. You will develop scoping documents, estimates, schedules, and substation drawings with a team of engineers and subconsultants, ensuring completeness and adherence to client standards.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; ABET-accredited program or equivalent.
PE License strongly preferred; ability to obtain within 1 year.
6+ years of experience in the Power Engineering field.
Effective leadership and mentoring skills.
Oversight, leadership, and quality review of subconsultant engineering design and project scheduling on subconsultant-resourced projects.
Excellent verbal and written communications, time management, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Capable of leading complex substation projects with a multidiscipline team from full scope estimating and proposals, through detailed design, to commissioning and construction support for energization.
On-site commissioning and/or construction support experience a plus.
Prior experience with physical, protection & control, and/or civil/structural design of electrical power substations required.
Capable of reviewing and producing design drawings, including General Arrangements, Elevations, Cable and Conduit Plans, Grounding Plans, Physical Connection Details, AC/DC schematics, and wiring diagrams
Ability to perform AC & DC substation studies a plus
Experience using ground grid modeling software a plus
Knowledge of substation protection and control schemes a plus
Knowledge of basic relay settings, NEC, NESC, and RUS design guide a plus.
High level of initiative and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with clear expectations while being highly responsive.
Proficiency with MS Office and essential engineering software.
Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company driving standards.
Demonstrates openness to innovation by embracing and applying evolving technology and AI tools to enhance workflows, solve problems, and drive continuous improvement.
Must have permanent authorization to work in US.
Travel 10-15%

Responsibilities

Act as a technical leader; apply standard engineering techniques on moderately complex projects.
Plan, schedule, conduct and coordinate detailed project phases.
Make design recommendations, adaptations and modifications for utility substations.
Perform calculations using engineering formulas and skills.
Resolve design problems including field investigation and detailed QC review of designs.
Coordinate design aspects and communicate with team members.
Provide technical guidance to other engineers, including subconsultant partners.
Lead subconsultant-based projects from scope through construction support.
