Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Phoenix, AZ invites applications for a Substation Engineer Intern to join our Grid team and assist with transmission, substation, distribution, renewable, and energy storage project work. Target start date is summer 2027.

Under the direction of senior engineers, you will prepare calculations, specifications, and designs, track project progress, and help procure major electrical equipment. You will gain hands-on experience in 3D modeling and AI-enabled workflows.

Qualifications

• Active enrollment in a BS or MS in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace or Chemical Engineering, with relevant coding and 3D design coursework and AI experience.
• Knowledge of design techniques and the ability to visualize parts in 3D without CAD.
• Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
• Self-starter, proactive, able to work independently with minimal direction.
• Ability to prioritize issues, create solutions, and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing engineering calculations, specifications and designs.
• Track project activities, progress and related data for reporting.
• Contribute to power designs and prepare procurement specifications for major electrical equipment and installation services.
