Job summary

Dashiell, an operating unit of Quanta Services, seeks a Substation Engineer to design substations from 34.5kV to 500kV and lead engineering activities in New Orleans, LA. The role reports to the Supervising Engineer and offers growth within a collaborative project team.

You will perform power system analyses, apply NEC/IEEE standards, and support project delivery from design through construction, with occasional site visits and travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
• 3+ years of experience in substation engineering design; senior roles 7+ years preferred.
• Senior applicants must be a licensed professional engineer (PE) and may gain licensure in multiple states within 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Create design documents and drawings for projects, including wiring diagrams and BOMs with minimal supervision.
• Perform relay burden, lighting, load flow, and short circuit calculations with minimal supervision.
• Apply engineering software for ground grid design, relay coordination, transformer sizing, load flow, and short circuit studies with minimal supervision.
• Review project schedules with a project engineer to keep projects on schedule.
• Apply NEC, NESC, IEEE, and ANSI standards; manage project documents.
• Supervise project activities and coordinate with customers and others as needed.
• Travel overnight for trainings/meetings (up to 10%).
• Spend time at job sites to gain hands-on knowledge of substation construction and design.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering

Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with multi-state licensure ability
