Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps Member role: entry-level, full-time, paid position focused on coaching and mentoring students across elementary to high school. You will help students achieve academic success, improve attendance, and develop positive behaviors, while planning and monitoring progress with teachers.

New members receive 2–4 weeks of training at the start of the year and work closely with partner teachers and school staff throughout all steps of the program.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
• Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree
• Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program
• Agree to and complete a background check
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025

Responsibilities

• Support academic coaching and interpersonal development for students: 1:1 work and small groups
• Develop literacy and/or math skills with varied learning activities
• Create and implement a behavior management system for students
• Develop interpersonal skills through daily practice, reflection and repetition
• Collaborate with teachers to collect, analyze and monitor student progress in City Year’s data system
• Create an engaging, safe and healthy classroom space in collaboration with the teacher
• Support Whole School initiatives to increase engagement with students and families
• Lead extended day and virtual programming including enrichment, homework support and clubs
• Recognize and celebrate student growth in math, literacy, attendance and behavior
