Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps member is an entry-level, full-time role focused on coaching and mentoring students across elementary to high school levels. The position emphasizes helping students achieve academic success, improve attendance, and build positive behaviors within school communities.

You will plan and monitor individual progress, collaborate with teachers on instruction, and support school-wide initiatives. Training is provided at the start of the year to set you up for success.

Qualifications

• U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident required (eligibility for work in the U.S.)
• Be 17–25 by July 1, 2025
• GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree
• Have served no more than three AmeriCorps terms
• Agree to and complete a background check
• Able to begin City Year by July/August 2025 (start date varies by location)

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups
• Develop literacy and/or math skills with varied activities
• Create and implement behavior management systems
• Foster interpersonal skills through learning, practice, reflection and repetition
• Collaborate with teachers to track student progress in City Year data system
• Create a engaging, safe and healthy classroom space with teachers
