Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members serve as student success coaches and mentors in schools, focusing on academic achievement, attendance, and positive classroom behaviors. You will support teachers, plan individualized progress, and participate in in-class student assistance and whole-school initiatives.

As part of City Year, you will receive structured training, a living stipend, and benefits through City Year location and AmeriCorps.

Qualifications

• Experience in all these tasks is not necessary. We provide 2-4 weeks of training at the beginning of the year to support you.

Responsibilities

• Coaching and mentoring students 1:1 and in small groups
• Develop literacy and/or math skills with varied activities
• Create and implement a behavior management system
• Develop interpersonal skills through daily practice and reflection
• Collaborate with teachers to collect and monitor student progress in City Year’s data system
• Create a safe and engaging classroom space in collaboration with the teacher
• Support extended day and virtual programming before, during, and after school
• Co-lead events or programs recognizing student growth in core areas
